ABOUT MITI

History

The Memon Industrial & Technical Institute (MITI) is a prestigious project of the World Memon Organization (WMO) which saw the light of the day on 31st May 2009.

This huge project has been made possible only due to the active participation of the City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) and Founder-President of WMO, Haji Abdul Razzak Yaqoob (ARY) and Mr. H.M Shahzad, Assistant Secretary General WMO.

It all started at a dinner gathering held during the time of 5th Annual General Assembly of the World Memon Organization at Karachi in April 2007 where Haji Abdul Razzak (ARY) expressed his deep desire of establishing a vocational and technical institute in Karachi to train the youth. Incidentally, Syed Mustafa Kamal, the then city Nazim of Karachi, was also present at the dinner. He promised to provide WMO a suitable plot of land at Karachi for establishing such vocational institute.

Within few days, several plots were shown to the Office Bearers of WMO. Out of many locations, the old civic center III at Korangi Industrial Area Karachi was considered the most appropriate by the board of management of WMO. Although the plot and building were in an industrial area, the board accepted the challenge to set up a world-class Vocational & Technical Institute at this location.

Soon after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between WMO and the CDGK, the plot was handed over to WMO which consisted of 7 acres of land and a building measuring 134,000 square feet covered area. The building required renovation and finishing work which was carried out by WMO at a cost of millions of rupees.

It was only due to the untiring efforts of Mr. H.M Shahzad, that the plot and building were turned into world class Vocational & Technical Institute. The formal opening ceremony of the institute was held on 31st of May 2009.

Overview

MITI, established on May 31st, 2009, is a vocational and technical training institute for the youth (both boys and girls) offering a wide variety of technical, IT, multimedia and home economic course/disciplines. MITI has been setup under the auspices of WMO – World Memon Organization which is an international NGO having 7 Chapters throughout the world.

MITI opened its doors for students from June 2009 with 7 Trades for men. And today, courses are exclusively offered in 31 Trades for men and 25 for women. Our courses duration is 4 months, 6 months, 1 year and short courses of 2 weeks to 2 months and 1 day proficient classes are also offered. MITI is affiliated with the City & Guilds of the UK and Trade and Testing Board (TTB), Sindh.

Taking into consideration the aspirations of the community, existing workshops and labs were expanded in 2012 to cater for increasing student strength and classes were extended into three shifts Morning, Afternoon and Evening so that more people could gain the benefit of skillful trainings. And currently we are graduating 1500-1800 males and 3000-3500 females in each batch which is increasing day by day. The passed out graduates are awarded with the certificates of achievement.

Initially, our focus areas were Landhi Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony and Malir. This has now expanded to the many more towns and currently we are serving to the youth from all over Karachi with no discrimination of caste and creed.

As MITI remains focused on charitable work so its fee-structure is highly subsidized and most affordable i.e. starting from Rs. 300 only. Besides such economical fee, MITI is also offering scholarships for the needy and deserving students so that no person remains unskilled and deprived.

MITI has also started an institute for Hijama Therapy on 2nd February 2012 where treatments are done on the basis of Hijama which is based on Sunnah of the holy prophet (S.A.W.W). All the equipment required for a modern clinic is available here and treatment is given to all sections of society at a very nominal cost and also without payment of any fees for the poor. Since its beginning, 7500 patients have been treated. Among them are many patients who came from many foreign countries for treatment.

In future, MITI plans to open more courses for which there is a growing demand in the market and industry and prides in becoming a premier institute not only in Karachi but in the country as the management and staff are committed to its continued growth and rapid advancement.

We are blessed to be among the pioneers in technical and vocational trainings. More than 40,000 graduates of MITI are in society who have secured employments and are self-employed entrepreneurs too. We are highly grateful to Allah SWT for guiding us in the right direction and giving success in our venture.
